About Us

We are a team of cyclists (and non-cyclists) who are riding 500 Miles in 5 days to raise money for charity. All money raised will be divided between The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Firefighters Charity.
Craig Grady
Hi I am a keen cyclist and first did the ride in 2015, after involvement with the Twinning Association of Hornsea and I am keen to keep up links between the towns. I will be organising the trip and now I am riding the whole distance.. I am keen to take people who haven’t visited Bouaye there and to meet up with friends from Bouaye’s firefighters and from the town. I am also keen to raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance as they were instrumental in saving a close friend after a cycling accident.

Lee Walton
Although not a firefighter, I’m a keen cyclist, and one of the founding members of Hornsea’s cycling club, the Hornsea Peloton. I’ve previously cycled the occasional century ride (100 miles), but never have I covered the distance we will be travelling to our twin town of Bouaye! But I am looking forward to the challenge. As well as being a keen cyclist, I was until recentley also one of Hornsea’s Town Councillors, and was the Mayor of Hornsea in 2016/17. I’m looking forward to visiting Bouaye and once again meeting the firemen from our twin town who cycled to Hornsea in 2016.

I started cycling in the summer of 2015, as a way to keep fit. I enjoy cycling as part of my local club, Hornsea Peloton and have taken part in the occasional sportive. However only once have I cycled 100 miles, so I am looking forward to the challenge. I have lived in Hornsea all my life and own Ralph Toogood Kitchens which are one of the proud sponsors of our cycling club. When the firemen cycled the route in 2016, I was one of the group which greeted them in Hull and cycled back to Hornsea fire station.
Therefore I am looking forward to meeting up again, visiting the town of Bouaye which we are twinned with, as well as raising funds for two well deserving charities.

Mick Bateman
I’m Mick Bateman and am married to Hayley. We have four children and a granddaughter . I used to enjoy running , taking part in several half and full marathons but had to give up on medical advice. To be honest I have never fancied the idea of cycling but am warming to it and embracing this challenge with slight trepidation . I feel that it could be the start of a new glittering career!
I have been a retained firefighter in Hornsea for a total of 32 years including 20 years as Watch Manager which is my current role. Over the last 20 years at Hornsea Fire Station we have raised in excess of £25,000 for local charities, The Firefighters Charity and Air Ambulance by hosting fundraisers and Golf days etc. I also run my own roofing business which has been trading locally for 34 years . I enjoy walking my dogs, and helping look after the rest of the animals my wife lets me have including Willow, the wallaby! .

Pat Finn
I have been a keen to reluctant cyclist for the last 50 years and should know better at my time of life than to take on such a challenge. Suffice it to say that did I not feel that the two Charities we are supporting were important I would be safely tucked up at home in bed. Feel free to laugh at a silly old fool attempting the impossible but whilst doing so please give generously to our cause.

John Collier – Support Driver
Hi, my name is John and I’m a spritely 53. I live in Hornsea with my wife Janette and 3 children Jessica, Jacob and Adam, we are also one of Hornsea’s Foster families so our tally of children in the house changes from time to time, at the moment there is a total tally is 6. I’ve lived in Hornsea since 1997 and been a member of the towns Firefighters for about 18 years and have competed in track and field events at The World Firefighter Games in both Hongkong and Liverpool. Amongst other things I run the Fire Stations Facebook Page. And I do 3d Photography as a hobby. It’s a great privilege to serve in Hornsea and I’m really proud to be a part of this team and looking forward to seeing Bouaye and meeting the Firefighters and towns folk there. As a support driver I’ll be providing support services and emergency support if necessary and wish the riders all the best.
bonne chance et bon voyage à tous les coureurs.
